ABOUT RACHEL: Rachel began her beauty career at the age of 18 as a skincare therapist at a Spa in Southern California, from which she hails. She earned her Bachelor's Degree at the same time and upon graduating in 2007 decided to move to NYC without a plan. Fate intervened shortly after when she met Nick Arrojo and was inspired to become a hairstylist. She spent 4 years pouring into her new craft as a Hairstylist at ARROJO Studio , learning from and practicing alongside some of the most brilliant hairstylists in the industry. Forever grateful for that season of her career and the connections she made, in 2013 she decided to move her clientele to Fringe Salon where she had fallen in love with the creative, colorful and artist environment nurtured by the owner Amy Schiappa. She felt inspired at Fringe as both a stylist and a colorist and delighted herself in being a part of its happy, hairstylist family. As 2016 came to a close she followed her instincts yet again and packed her shears for a new opportunity at Pembley Salon in Soho. Her best hairstylist friends paved the way for her by moving to Pembley first, both ex Arrojo and Fringe alumni themselves. They were cheering her on to make the move and Rachel is now extremely proud of the chic new space she now works out of! Rachel considers her job a great joy and cherishes the close relationships she's kept over the years with her beautiful clients.

RACHEL'S CUTTING TECHNIQUES: Rachel works with each client's unique and natural hair texture, teaching them to easily create beautiful styles every morning from home. She cuts hair using both the scissors or razor, depending on preference. She gives precision based haircuts that grow out strong and true to form while the hair is wet, and then defines each persons signature movement and body once the hair is dry. She always considers what will benefit each clients lifestyle and bring the most out of every individual face shape.

RACHEL'S COLORING TECHNIQUES: Rachel is passionate about rich colors and vibrant highlights. For the most part she uses a hand painted "balayage" technique where she artistically places highlights and lowlights on top of the hair in order to bring out the haircut's shape and reflect the most light. Her highlights continue to look bright, dimensional and natural as they grow. She pulls from a full backbar of L'oreal Professionnel hair color, which she views as the best color line in the world. They have potent gray coverage, a beautiful spectrum of cools and warms, and are the leaders in the industry offering "ammonia free" color.

CURRENT PROJECTS: Rachel believes that the best Hairstylists are those grounded in continuing education. This year her focus is fixed on learning as much as she can from the color experts at the L'oreal Professionnel Soho Academy. By the end of 2017 she will be a certified L'oreal Professionnel Color and Balayage Artist herself. She'll also be hanging out with Johnny Ramirez & Anh Co Tran to learn the art of "Lived in Hair" & "Lived in Color" this year. Rachel dedicates time every week to immerse herself in all of the inspiration and education surrounding her craft. She stays up to date on current styling techniques, color transformations, hair products and trending haircuts, and she follows hairstylists she respects in order to learn from their techniques to re-create them for her clients.

MORE ABOUT RACHEL: Rachel lives in a lovely garden apartment in Park Slope, Brooklyn with two extraordinary roommates and two adorable Goldendoodle puppies. On her days off from behind the chair she finds inspiration through gardening in her outdoor space, her ongoing interior design projects, camping in far off woods, going for hiking adventures with her dogs, getting as much beach time as she can, getting lost in books, laughing at smart and funny tv, cooking clean from home, and through her daily yoga practice.
